Bienvenida/o a mi Blog Cupcakes & Harmony!

Aquí encontrarás experiencias sobre pastelería y recetas; también puntos de vista sobre la aventura de ser madre, libros, series y viajes.

Mi nombre es María José Montalvo y vivo en Quito, Ecuador. Soy una pastelera autodidacta, que terminó estudiando y convirtiéndose en Pastry Chef. Nunca me gustó entrar a la cocina, hasta que hice mis primeros cupcakes durante mi embarazo en el año 2010, desde aquel momento me enamoré, ¡y no he parado!

Estudié Lingüística en la Universidad y actualmente trabajo en casa como traductora EN-SP-EN y ghostwriter. Sin embargo, mi actividad principal es la de mamá de Nicolás a tiempo completo. Trabajé en una oficina por 10 años ¡y me encantaba! Pero esta vida, ahora, no la cambiaría por nada en el mundo. Mi esposo es mi fuerza, hacemos un gran equipo.

Me encanta viajar y amo leer. ¡Me siento como diablo en botella cuando no hago alguna de estas dos cosas! Así que siempre me verán con libro en mano, o posteando fotos de mis viajes en mi cuenta personal de , actividad que está en pausa debido a la pandemia.

Entre mis hobbies, los que me mantienen entretenida y sana en medio de la montaña rusa emocional que es ser madre, emprendedora y ama de casa, son la meditación y cardio; idiomas (estoy aprendiendo alemán y chino); soy fundadora del Club de Lectura Quito, un espacio privado para amantes de la lectura y, además, me encanta perderme en las historias ficticias de los dramas coreanos.

Se preguntarán: ¿¡Por qué esta mujer tiene posts en español e inglés!? Mi vida gira en torno a los dos idiomas. No sólo por trabajo, sino porque tengo la suerte de tener amigos alrededor del mundo. Gente que he conocido en varios lugares y hablan diferentes idiomas; con ellos, el inglés es nuestra fuente de comunicación.

Así que mi página va en dos idiomas en honor a ellos y a toda la gente del mundo que se identifique en algo conmigo y mis posts. ¡Estoy encantada de conectarme contigo! <3

My name is María José Montalvo and I live in Quito, Ecuador. I am a self-taught baker who ended up studying and becoming a Pastry Chef. I never liked to be in the kitchen until I baked my first cupcakes during my pregnancy in 2010, ever since that day, I fell in love and I haven’t stopped!

I studied Linguistics in College, and I currently work at home as EN-SP-EN translator and ghostwriter. However, my main activity is being Nick’s full-time mom. I worked at an office for 10 years and I loved it! However, this life, right now, I wouldn’t change it for anything in the world. My husband is my strength, we make a great team.

I love to travel and I loooove to read. I feel frustrated when I can’t do any of both! So, you will always see me with a book in my hand, or posting travel pics on my personal account, activity currently paused due to the pandemic.

Among my hobbies, the ones that keep me entertained and healthy in the middle of this roller coaster of being a mom, entrepreneur and house wife, are meditation and cardio; languages (I’m learning German and Chinese); I’m the founder of Club de Lectura Quito, a private space for book lovers; and, I also love to get lost into the fictional stories of Korean dramas.

You may ask yourselves: Why is this woman posting in English and Spanish!? My life circles around those two languages. Not only for work, but because I am so lucky to have friends from around the world. People I’ve met in different places and speak different languages; with them, English is our source of communication.

So, my blog is in both languages in honor to them and to all the people around the world who may identify somehow with me and my posts. I’m happy to connect with you! <3
